Mystery Motion Cat And Mouse Sand Action Toy. This amazing vintage animated toy most is likely from the 1960s but is a replica of an antique victorian toy. In the days before wind up mechanical toys, motion was obtains by the action of fine sand pouring into an ingeniously designed watermill wheel inside the box. The wheel is what activates the mouse. This is a shadow box style toy with a glass window. Inside the box is a cat organ grinder and a couple of dancing cats in the back round. The organ grinder cat has a mouse instead of a monkey and the mouse entertains all with its flipping summersault dancing! The back has the original label with instructions and history.
Measures 4 1/2″ x 7″ x 2 1/8. This piece is in good vintage condition. The red pattern paper that is wrapped around the out side and the gold foil lace trim shows wear and tear. Please see pics. This very rare, and collectable toy was made in Japan by the Shackman Company in New York. A charming and very entertaining toy, you will love to watch the little mouse do flips!
